You should complete a Travellers' Statement and Incoming Passenger Card
prior to reaching the Customs clearance point. These forms will be given
to you by airline staff on board your flight and are also available from
desks immediately in front of the customs/immigration line.
When you disembark you should proceed to the Entry Control Point and
present your passport or other travel documents, your Incoming Passenger
Card and your Travellers' Statement. All documents except your Incoming
Passenger Card will be returned to you after processing. Once processed,
you should then proceed to collect your baggage.
Anything to Declare?
When you have collected your baggage you may proceed to either the goods
to declare or nothing to declare exits.
Remember to have your Travellers' Statement ready.
What to Declare?
Don't forget to declare any necessary items, as there are severe
penalties for failing to declare articles which are prohibited, restricted
or for which you are required to pay duty/sales tax. Australian
Customs Service provides information on what
to declare.
If you disagree with the amount of duty/sales tax assessed, do not
make any payment and request to see the senior Customs officer on duty.
Payment of duty/sales tax can be made in cash, by travellers cheque
in Australian currency and by American Express, Diners Club Card,
Bankcard, Mastercard and Visa card.
Foreign Currency - amounts of A$10,000 or more need to be reported
on arrival (currency does not include travellers cheques).
For information on visa and entry requirements into Australia view the
page relating to immigration.
It is important to remember that if you carry any animal or plant
item with you, or packed in your luggage, you must declare it on your
Travellers' Statement on arrival.
Please note that unaccompanied baggage may attract inspection charges.
For more detailed information regarding Australia's quarantine laws
refer to the quarantine
page.
Currency
There is no limit on the amount of Australian or foreign cash that may be
taken out of Australia. However, amounts of A$10,000 or more must be
reported to Customs before departure.
National Heritage Items
Items important to Australia's national heritage cannot be taken out of
the country without a permit. If you are in doubt about an item contact
the Heritage Protection Section of the Department of Communication and
Arts on (61 6) 279 1610.
Fauna and Flora
The export of live birds, reptiles and other species is generally
prohibited. In all cases an export permit must be issued by the Wildlife
Protection Authority before export occurs. An Australian Export permit for
manufactured crocodile products is required and should be provided at the
time of purchase. If you are in doubt about any item contact the Wildlife
Protection Authority.
Here are some tips on the best routes to choose.
Most routes to the airport have signs with the
symbol pointing which way to turn at each intersection. Follow these
symbols as they show the most direct route to the airport.
Airport staff have supplied
these tips as some of the best to take if you want an easy or quick
journey. They are displayed as "to Sydney Airport". If you are
travelling from the airport simply reverse the directions. Most can be
used for travel to both the Domestic and International terminals whilst
some are highlighted as Domestic or International only.
When you're at Sydney International Terminal we can help you with
information or special inquiries on the spot. A welcome face is provided
to visitors at the Tourism New South Wales Information Desk, located in
the centre of the Arrivals Level. The crew can help visitors and locals
with transport, accommodation, arriving flight details, and airport
facilities. For more Information see Tourism
NSW
The Sydney Airport Help Desk is located next to the glass lifts in the
centre of the terminal on Departures Level 2. It is staffed by the Sydney
Airport Gold Ambassadors, a volunteer-based customer service program. The
Gold Ambassadors wear bright gold jackets and are here to help you with
any information you may need.
Remember to keep a street
directory on hand if you’re driving for the first time.
All major Sydney radio stations
conduct traffic reports at least every 15 minutes during peak hour in the
mornings (6am to 9am) and the afternoons (4pm to 7pm) to advise of traffic
problems and streets to avoid.
For lost and found luggage and misplaced items ring (02) 9667 9583 or go
to Level 3, Sydney Airport Reception.
Sydney Airport is only 9
kilometres from the city centre and offers convenient transport options.
Allow thirty minutes if you’re travelling to the City by taxi, and if
you’re travelling by bus, allow one hour.
We are Australia’s first
capital city airport to offer customers a rail service to and from the
airport.
In addition to domestic
and general aviation operations, Hobart Airport, located just 17
kilometres from Australia's southern most capital city, provides an
international gateway to the island State's famous heritage.
Hobart International Airport
offers modern, safe, facilities to travellers.
